Drink & Drive!

April 6th, 2008 by Ken Elm

080408_164446.jpgOne of the first kanji (Chinese characters) I learnt in my Japanese class was one of the most important - that of ’sake’ - alcohol!

While I didn’t know it at the time, it turns out ’sake’ refers to all types of alcohol sold in shops and bars, as well as the term ’sake’ meaning Japanese rice wine (dictionary definition that one so sake purists please refrain from crucifixion of the J-newbie if you would?)

So, there you have me, this time near my home in the east of the capital, walking along and spotting the sign above -offering (apparently), parking (the P being kinda universal) for those wanting to drink and then drive home or, I hope and pray, buy booze to take away!

Hopefully the latter given the store being a local 24/7 ‘conbini’ to use a Japanese term.
