Kansai events – April, 2008

April 13: Daigo-ji Temple cherry blossom viewing parade to commemorate the flower viewing party held by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in the year of his death, 1598. Over 100 people dress in period costume to walk the grounds of the temple to celebrate the restoration of Daigo-ji by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in the last years of his life.

Access: Kyoto (subway) Tozai Line: Daigo Station

April 22: Bugaku performances of traditional song and dance are performed at Shitenno-ji Temple in Osaka from 12.30 p.m.

Access: JR Shitennoj-i Station or (subway) Shitennoji-mae Station

April 29: Jonan-gu temple hosts a traditional tanka (31-syllable) poetry writing competition in which period costume dressed participants try to complete their poem before a cup of sake floats down a stream. Starts: 2 p.m.

Access: Kintetsu or Kyoto Subway Takeda Station: 15 min walk
